Mixed Hardware Makes Tablets A Better Bet For Computer Users
Feb 07Tablet computers have taken the technology world by storm and this especially owing to their mixed hardware, which makes the machines suitable for almost any task. Tablet computers have been around for a very long time with the earliest “”tablet computers”" being the abacus, used in China in ancient times. Computers have however come a long way since then and they have gained astonishing interactivity and processing power that has made them almost ubiquitous with productivity. With the recent launch of Apple’s Textbook app iBook 2.0, the use of tablet computers has become even more engrained in our day-to-day lives.
The new application, which hitherto had only supported books, can now support textbooks and through mixed hardware and software capabilities can now allow users to interact with textbooks in a manner never before thought possible. The application that runs on the Apple iOS platform will allow users to annotate pages, highlight content, interact with dynamic content such as 3D images, and so on. This is seen by many pundits as something that shall revolutionize the face of education and textbooks as the whole process of learning and teaching becomes redefined. In addition to these quintessential features, users will also have access to a large repository of textbooks from some of the leading publishers in the world.
The other application that Apple launched that seems to augment this harbinger of change is the iTunes U, an application that allows educationalists and learners to create and interact with user-generated learning material. The application may be used to create syllabi, timetables, curricula, notes and so on, which can then be disseminated and accessed through any one of the Apple gadgets including the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Apple are well-known for their knack for creating mixed hardware and software components that were never before thought possible and the result is always disruptive devices and services that people end up adopting en mass. But the real game-changer as far as digital textbooks are concerned is the tablet PC. This is because Apple products are by far too expensive for mass adoption although it must be said that Apple’s forays into digital learning will definitely act as a trailblazer for future mass-adoption using a varied set of tablet PC’s.
