Software that all Modern Computer Users Need

Basic software for computing varies from user to user. However, there are two main types of software that almost all users require, maintenance and productivity.

Other than the operating system itself, most computer users require a range of software to keep their computer system running efficiently. In the modern era of computing, a proactive defence of the computer from unfavourable viruses, Trojans, and other forms of mal-ware is required. Almost all users have some internet security as a part of their basic software. This defence can be as simple as the built-in firewall and anti-virus, through to highly powerful internet security suites that protects the system with on-access virus scanning, mal-ware scanning, a sandbox (for new or uncertain file types, keeping the file restricted from affecting the main system), and a good firewall to keep information secure.

However, on top of the system’s basic protection software, most computers also require system maintenance. Windows is particularly famous for this, requiring regular cleaning of junk files, the system’s registry and also de-fragment all files on the hard-drive. Thankfully, there are special system cleaners that are designed to clean the system to a ‘near new’ state with only one click of the mouse. Moreover, many de-fragmenting programs can be set to automatically perform de-fragmentation while the computer is idol or under low use. These particular software developments have made system maintenance much easier nowadays.

With the above covered, a user still needs to be able to work and play on their computer, which means they primarily need software to write, draw, edit photos and surf the web. Although there are power users out there, for the majority of people these activities can be performed with:

1) An Office Suite
2) A Picture Editor
3) An Internet Browser
4) A Paint/Art Program

With all of the aforementioned software included within their basic software, a user should be able to safely and productively use their computer for a long time.
